Celebrate a summer birthday and bring the 2012 Games to your backyard with an outdoor Olympics Party for kids. With individual and team competitions, and patriotic decorations and activities, guests of all ages will enjoy a spirited and unifying experience.

About the 2012 Olympics

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games will take place in London, England, from July 27th to August 12th. More than 200 countries and 10,000 athletes will participate in 26 sports, with over 8 million ticket holders, cheering them on.

A few of the most popular sports in the Olympic Games include athletics (track and field), basketball, football, gymnastics, and swimming. London is first city to host the games three times (1908; 1948; 2012).

The 2012 Olympic Mascots are named Wenlock and Mandeville, the perfect pair to help get the kids excited to watch and participate!

Olympic Party Ideas

Coming up with Olympic games for kids isn't too hard, but just in case you're stuck, we've rounded up our favorites.

After all that fun the kids will need some nourishment. Take a cue from the international stage and set up an Olympic party menu that's kid-friendly, but also inspired by other cuisines.

Make sure you decorate your space festively! Not only will this help to spark the kids energy, it'll also mimic the celebrations so important to the actual Olympic games. You can go the patriotic route and decorate in red, white and blue with left-over 4th of July decorations, or with a more general Olympics theme using our fun and free printables.

The 2012 Olympics aren't just about the sporting events, so consider incorporating other elements from the games into your party. While Duran Duran will entertain millions with their hits, your kids will appreciate an Olympic party playlist designed with them in mind.

Olympics Party Favors

After you have the kids over for Olympic activities of their own, be sure to send them off with a memento to remember their "games" by. Here are a few ideas:

Olympic T-Shirts - Let them continue to show their pride for the games.  Simply download an image of the Olympic mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville,  onto iron-on paper and transfer to white t-shirts. It makes for a really cool design and memorable gifts.

Hula Hoops – These fun and inexpensive toys remind guests of the Olympic Games’ rings and the fun they had.

Mini Apple Pies – Nothing is more of an all-American treat and McDonald’s makes it easy to get in the drive thru so you don't have to bake any if you're short on time. Just make sure you pop them into a small party favor bag and decorate with our printable Olympics themed favor topper!
