Wine is perhaps the most gifted items within my family and circle of friends. Whether it's a birthday party, a promotion or some other milestone occasion we're celebrating, chances are you're going to find my friends and family will appear with quite a few bottled gifts.
I'm not opposed to this custom as more often than not, wine is the perfect sip to celebrate a particular party or milestone. What I am opposed to however, is everyone packing their gifted bottles in the same old metallic bag you'll find at every liquor store you walk into.
As with most gifts, popping into the store to purchase a bottle really doesn't require a ton of thought or work. To show I put as much thought into a wine bottle gift as any other, I like to customize the bottle in some way, shape or form.
Here are three simple, personalized ways to customize a wine gift. All three have proven successful in my own experience and really couldn't be simpler to make!
The DIY Monogrammed Wine Bottle Bag
The first way to gift a bottle of wine with lots of personality is by customizing the bag you put it in with something that reflects the recipient. This could be a bag you purchase at the store, but I find a DIY monogrammed burlap bag is quick, simple and shows a touch of thoughtfulness another bag wouldn't have.
To do this yourself, follow our tutorial here, but rather than numbers or black paint, use the recipients initial and their favorite color for paint.
The Funny Bottle Tag That Fits
The second way to customize a wine bottle gift requires even less work than the monogrammed bag. In fact, it skips bags completely! Find quirky tags like the one here to fit the personality of your recipient. Back in early college my friends and I would drink cheap beer and we're always saying how sophisticated we are now that we can't even sip the stuff. This tag is perfect to bring those memories back!
The Customized Wine Bottle Label
Finally, if you can, get creative with a DIY wine label. We created this one for a co-worker to celebrate a promotion and it only took a few minutes. Use both your recipient and the occasion to inspire a design of your own, print it out on a sticker and cover up the boring bottle label with your custom one.
