Dining al fresca is one of the great joys of the summer months. As the sun slips down toward the horizon, the temperatures fall a bit too, making your patio or deck the perfect location to enjoy some good friends and delicious food.
As the dark of evening begins to envelope your dinner party, there are plenty of ways to add a little extra magic and ambiance to your decor without spending a lot or having to do a ton of work. Repurpose what you've already got and prep as far ahead as you can to ensure you enjoy your dinner party as much as your guests do!
3 Ideas to Repurpose Decor for a Summer Dinner Party
1. Make sure that you have plenty of candles dancing in the moonlight.
For my party, I pulled out a few antique mason jars I had and added small tea lights to them rather than purchasing newer and pricier taper or pillar candles. This technique creates a softer glow for your table using what you already have.
2. Look around your house and see what you can borrow for the evening from an unexpected place.
I discovered that the crystal candle chandelier from my bathroom would be the perfect way to add little glamor to my dinner party.
I also hung a couple of white bedsheets (a great temporary substitute for outdoor curtains) and then lined the back side of them with white twinkle lights.
3. Food for the eyes - literally - is a great idea to dress up a dinner table.
Dinner parties are all about sitting down to a meal with friends, so incorporate your menu selections into your table's decor scheme.
For instance, my homemade creme fraiche and caviar appetizer added to the glamor of my table and also acted as a decorative touch to each guest's place settings.
The signature blue drinks I served also mimicked the soft turquoise glow I was going for with my mason jars, chandelier and tea light candles.
As the sun went down the curtains began to glow and our little dining oasis became even more magical thanks to our soft lighting and creative use of decor we already had!
