Whether you choose a store-bought invite, create one yourself or send one via email, be sure to keep make it clear the party is a surprise and that the guest of honor should be keep in the dark! A quick way to invite a lot of people, especially old friends of the guest of honor, is with online invitation.
If you'd rather send an invite via regular mail, be sure to give guests important details such as their arrival time, as well as the arrival time of the guest of honor.
When To Send
As with any birthday party, you have to give your guests enough time to clear their schedules and make proper arrangements. Sending the invitations too early, especially for a surprise party, is a big no-no. The earlier you send them, the more time your guests will have of spilling the beans! Sending them too late is also a mistake you should avoid. Keep in mind that your guests may have prior engagements, so give them enough time to make sure they can make it. Send your invites out about a month or so before the event - this gives them enough time to clear their schedule, and is a good window for being able to keep the surprise a secret!
What To Include
Important details to include on any invitations are the time, date, and location of the party. If you are planning a theme, be sure to mention that in the invite so your guests can dress appropriately.
A surprise party invitation requires a little more detail than usual. Including the time that the guest of honor will be arriving is helpful. That way, if a guest is running late, they can decide to wait until the guest of honor has arrived to join the party. The last thing you want is for the birthday girl/boy to arrive at the same time your guests do!
Also, include any other important details that often come up with a surprise party, such as where to park (around the corner to keep familiar cars out of sight).
