8 Ways To Find a Unique location

Want to celebrate in a special place, but clueless about how to find one? Here are a few ways to score big:
  • Call civic organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, and ask to speak to someone about renting an event location for a private party.
  • Inquire at historical societies, cultural associations, or fraternal groups, who often have large fundraisers.
  • Scan the government or city pages at the front of the phone book for public structures or interesting venues, as well as offices such as the parks and recreation department.
  • Check in the phone book under "party planners" and "event locations". Research anything having to do with parties from retail suppliers to rental vendors who have made deliveries to many events in your area.
  • Go to wedding or party websites to research regional event location listings.
  • Search online using word combinations like, "party event location Des Moines."
  • Contact real estate agents who may know of someone who will rent their home or backyard.
  • If you live in an area where movies are filmed, call a location scout, or a local Screen Actor's Guild office. They may be able to point you in the right direction. After you've done your research, visit the locations that sound interesting.
  • Most venues will have an experienced person to meet with you and explain their site details. Though, it's always good to be prepared. Bring a camera and a list of questions, such as these below, in addition to your own.
