Call civic organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, and ask to speak to someone about renting an event location for a private party.
Inquire at historical societies, cultural associations, or fraternal groups, who often have large fundraisers.
Scan the government or city pages at the front of the phone book for public structures or interesting venues, as well as offices such as the parks and recreation department.
