Decorate your home by hanging festive red paper lanterns. You can create your own lanterns by painting Chinese-style 'inspired' calligraphy on white paper ones. If you have a Chinese friend who can show you a few happy sayings, paint these on the lanterns. This link will show you how to draw the famous Chinese symbol for happiness and good luck.
These inexpensive props will give your party the feel of rustic Beijing!

Line your front walkway, entrance and foyer with red paper lunch bags filled with votive candles. Make sure the bottom of your paper bag is lined with sand or rice so they stay secure.

If you have kids or pets, you might want to use 'safe' candles. These battery operated votives offer the ambiance of a candle without a burning flame.
