Outdoor entertaining can be more than paper plates, plastic forks, and disposable cups! An outdoor tablescape can be just as thoughtfully prepared as one indoors. The nice thing is that nature can be the backdrop as well as the inspiration for your centerpiece and place settings.
Start by covering the table with a simple tablecloth and topping with a burlap runner. This immediately adds style and comfort to the setting. If burlap isn't available, try a natural linen or cotten fabric, or even a bamboo runner. Next, choose biodegradable bamboo plates set atop a glass charger. The use of bamboo continues a stylish yet convenient element. Use fabric or paper napkins and place a moss rock on top. These rocks can be found at craft stores, Target stores, and Marshall's/TJ Maxx. Complete the place setting with real glassware tied with twine for interest, and sitting on top of a leaf "coaster."
For the centerpiece of the table, fill small vases with small river rocks, some moss, and a candle. You can spritz the moss with water for safety if you like. Then place 2 or 3 large leaves in a taller vase filled with water and enough river rocks to cover the bottom. Banana plant leaves or elephant ears work well for this idea. Wrap some more twine around the vase for more detail.
Voila! You've created a lovely dining table with beautiful details that blend with nature's back drop. For a little more drama, you could create a moss charger plate by gluing sheet moss to the outer rim of a paper plate, and setting the bamboo plate on top(click red arrow above to view this).
Use these ideas for any casual gathering outdoors. They may also be ideal for Father's day or a birthday party for "Him," becouse of the nature inspired decor.
