How To Build a Champagne Tower:
1. Begin by choosing a very sturdy surface on which to build your tower. Do not use uneven tables that rock or will move if gently bumped into.
2. Using coupe champagne glasses (the type with the wide round opening, not flutes), create a bottom row in the shape of a square. Place all of the glasses so they are touching each other. If done right you should see a small diamond shape of space between the glasses.
3. Once you've completed the bottom square (the foundation), use one less glass on each length of the next row. For example, if your bottom row was 6 glasses x 6 glasses, use 5 glasses x 5 glasses on the next row up. Place the center of each glass bottom on top of the small diamond space to ensure that the glass is fully supported.
4. Keep going until there is only one champagne couple balanced at the top of your tower.
5. Carefully pour champagne into the top glass until it overflows into the glasses below it. Keep adding champagne until all of the glasses are filled. Keep a towel on the floor beneath the table until the glassesa are filled to catch any overflow spillage.
6. If a tower of glass makes you nervous, just use plastic champagne coupes. Ironically though, the lack of weight on the plastic coupes make the tower more likely to topple if knocked into, so choose wisely.
