Everyone loves the beach, but not all of us live close to one. As a matter of fact, most of us DON’T! But that’s no reason we can’t turn out back yards into our own private beaches. It’s fun for young and old a like, and, surprisingly, it can be a cost-effective way to get your party on!
- To set the scene, blow up inexpensive beach balls and hang them from trees or just scatter them about the yard.
- Add to your usual outdoor furniture by using your beach paraphernalia like beach umbrellas, towels, and mats to provide additional shade, seating and ambiance.
- Spring for an inexpensive child’s pool and fill it with water. Buy two and fill the other with sand. (Don’t worry, if you live in the Midwest, you can use the sand in a few months to scatter on icy sidewalks!)
- If budget allows, pick up a Slip ‘n Slide. If it doesn’t, check out this exhaustive list of back yard water games. Actually, check out the list either way!
- Your beach party will need music. You could chose island sounds or go old school with The Beach Boys.
- It goes without saying that all drinks should be garnished with little paper umbrellas!
- For party favors fill inexpensive plastic buckets with travel-size bottles of SPF, small shovels and pairs of dollar-store flip flops.
- We can’t forget invitations! Here's a great one you can find right here on Celebrations.
- Of course you'll want to encourage your guests to dress in casual beachwear, but swimming suits would be preferred!
And there you have it: Your own back yard beach party WITHOUT the beach!
