Celebrate your baby's 1st birthday in style by using your color scheme to create cupcakes with the number 1 on them.

Make the cupcakes interesting by writing the number 1 in different "fonts" and styles in various frosting colors. Arrange the cupcakes on a large tray directly on the table in the shape of a number 1 for fun presentation.

Ingredients

4 plastic pastry bags
4 different colors of food frosting
Spatula or knife for spreading on the regular frosting

Steps

Create four different frosting colors using the food coloring. Create colors that reflect the color scheme of the 1st birthday party. For example, if you are using primary colors like red, blue, yellow and green, simply buy food coloring bottles in those colors.
Split up a big batch of white frosting in the flavor of your choice into four bowls, and mix one color into each bowl. Once you have mixed the frosting thoroughly and have created the desired shade, add the contents of each bowl into one of your four pastry bags.
TIP: When making your colored frosting, make sure that it is vibrant enough to pop when piped onto cupcakes covered with white frosting.
If your color scheme is a range of shades of the same color, only purchase one color of food dye. Create the range of colors by adding sequentially more food dye to each bowl of white frosting until you’ve achieved a range of shades.
Write one number “1” in the center of each cupcake. Create squiggly 1s, curly 1s, super wide number 1s, etc., until you’ve exhausted the types of fonts you can create. Get ideas for types of fonts to imitate by typing the number 1 using different text styles in a Word document.
