Use these paper rockets as lawn décor or as lawn markers for July 4th picnic games such as the starting point of a relay race.
Preparation
Materials To Make 1 Rocket:
- Patriotic theme paper
- Silver cardstock
- Cardboard paper towel tube
- Scissors
- Scotch tape
- White glue or strong glue dots
- Two 18-inch wood dowel or stick
- Thin red, white, or blue ribbon
Steps
- Pick up some patriotic theme paper and the materials listed at the craft store or have your kids create a design on white paper.
- Wrap the paper around a cardboard paper towel tube and use tape to secure it. Trim the paper at the ends of the roll if necessary.
- Cut the silver cardstock into a 4-inch round circle. Use scissors to make a slit in the circle from the outer edge into the center of the circle. Overlap the inner cut edges of the circle to make a pointed dome for the top of the rocket and use tape on the underside to keep it closed. Use glue or glue dots to adhere the dome to the top of the rocket (see photo).
- Cut ribbon to 6-inch lengths and tape a few to the inside of the paper towel tube at the bottom as tails for the rocket.
- Put about 6-inches of the wood dowel into the cardboard tube or the bottom of the rocket. Securely tape the dowel to the inside of the tube. It's important to have a good amount of the dowel sticking out of the rocket bottom so you can insert it into the ground as a lawn decoration.
