The sweet crusty topping on this creamy apple pie is absolute heaven!
Ingredients
- Crust:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 ounces cream cheese
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into tablespoon pieces
- Filling:
- 1 3/4 cups sour cream
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 6 large Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored, sliced into wedges
- Topping:
- 1 cup chopped almonds
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Steps
- Add crust ingredients into a food processor and pulse until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. Form dough into a flat disk, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for an hour. Roll out dough on a floured surface and transfer to a 9-inch pie pan. Trim excess dough around rim and crimp or ruffle edges. Refrigerate until ready to use.
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
- To make filling, mix together sour cream, sugar, egg, flour, vanilla, and salt until blended. Stir in apples and coat well with mixture. Pour into prepared crust.
- Bake pie for 10 minutes and then reduce oven to 350 degrees. Bake for 35 minutes more.
- Meanwhile, mix together topping ingredients. Remove pie from oven and sprinkle topping over apples. Return pie to oven and bake for 15 minutes more until crust is golden brown.
- Remove from heat and cool. Serve at room temperature or cold.Makes 8 servings
