Simulate areas of the Star Trek TV show set by using large foam core sheets and LED lights. Or hang lengths of stellar gossamer on select walls for a spaced out look.
U.S.S. Star Trek Enterprise
- The Captain's Deck and the Transporter Room are perhaps the most memorable sets from the TV series.
- Check out Star Trek's online hub and view pictures of the TV show set to replicate the basic design using foam core for your party.
- Foam core is a lightweight board, similar to cardboard. You can tape large (4x8-foot) sheets together to make party decor walls and then apply colored paper to the front of it to finish it off. (Painting foam core will make it bow).
- Here's a step-by-step guide for working with foam core from the TV show I hosted and designed, "Weekend Entertaining," where I made an 80s karaoke stage.
- For your Star Trek set, cover foam core with blue paper for the walls and then fill in with accent paper depending on the look you are trying to create.
- For the inside of elevators and walls in the Transporter Room try holographic film sheets from Holo Walls. The company website also has great ideas for dance floors and tabletops which would work great for a Star Trek party.
- Silver foil tape, which you can find in the plumbing section of most hardware stores, is ideal for accent trim.
- You can cut the foam core into pieces and attach them together to make the Captain's Deck consoles. Then poke small holes in it and insert LED lights.
- Add Captain Kirk's chair and you're good to go!
Galactic Walls and Ceilings
- Gossamer is an "event material" that is usually hung like curtains on walls in a party.
- Turn your party into a galaxy by hanging black gossamer with silver stars around the space. Shindigz has an incredible selection of gossamer.
- You can completely "black out" the party with gossamer and then add the U.S.S. Enterprise set pieces for the ultimate Star Trek atmosphere.
Space Age Accents
- Black, blue, and silver seem to be the predominate colors of the Star Trek enterprise.
- Use black cloths on the tables and a Star Fleet blue fabric as an overlay.
- Fill in the party deets with silver or chrome tableware in modern designs. Look for sleek candlesticks!
- Go for space age party supplies like metallic look plastic utensils and plates. Or you may want to rent plates and silverware given that this is a milestone birthday party.
- Serve food on glass platters or serving ware with a touch of silver or chrome.
