Addams Family Halloween Treats

Throw an Addams family theme party this year for Halloween complete with cocktails and party food inspired by one of the creepiest and coolest families we know.

I put together these recipes and paired them with my Addams family cocktails for a client of mine recently. Inspired by the original TV show I watched as a kid and the Broadway musical I recently saw, all of my recipes turned out fantastic.

Morticia Addams' Jack-o-Roons

While Gomez. leader of the Addams family clan, may only require a chocolate cigar when drinking his chocolate Duel cocktail, his wife Morticia needs something a bit sweeter when sipping on her Black Rose.

Purchase your favorite Pumpkin Macaroons from Payard or a local bakery.  Using Ready to Use Icing Tubes from Wilton, decorate each macaroon with a whimsical jack-o-lantern faces.

Pugsley's 3D Creepy Cupcakes

Ingredients

1 box Dark Chocolate Cake Mix
Eggs
Oil
Water
Dark Chocolate Frosting
Wilton Candy Melts – Available in numerous colors and flavors
Wilton Candy Molds - Skulls and EyeballsWilton Coffin Sprinkle Set

To Make Cupcakes

Follow the instructions on the back of the boxed Dark Chocolate cake mix, following the necessary steps to make the cupcakes. 

Once the cupcakes are baked and cooled, ice the cupcakes with the Dark Chocolate Frosting (you may use a decorating bag to frosten the cupcakes if that is easiest for you).

To Make Candy Skulls and Eyeballs

Melt chocolate in the microwave using the instructions on the packaging. Using the Wilton Candy Molds, fill each mold with the chocolate colors of your choice; refrigerate to harden. When hardened, slightly twist the tray to remove the chocolates.

Decorate each cupcake with the skulls and eyeballs and sprinkles.

Wednesday's Bleeding Heart Brownies

Ingredients

I Box Chocolate Brownie Mix
Eggs
Oil
Water
Strawberry Jam
Heart Shaped Cupcake pan or Heart Shaped Cookie Cutter and Baking Pan

Directions

Follow the instructions on the back of the boxed Chocolate Brownie mix, following the necessary steps to make the brownies. 

Once the brownies are baked and cooled, remove them from the pan. 

If using the cookie cutters, cut the brownies into the heart shapes.  Heat the strawberry jam till it is warm and a bit runny. 

Spoon a tablespoon of jam onto the heart once plated.

Uncle Fester's Bat Chips and Bloody Dip

Ingredients

Hummus
3 Pimento Peppers
Pita Bread
Olive Oil
Salt and Pepper

Directions

To make Bat Chips: Using a bat shaped cookie cutter, cut the pieces of Pita Bread into the desired shapes, you may use any cookie cutter for the desired shape.  Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Brush the pita chips with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Place on a baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.

To make Hummus: Using a blender, puree the pimento peppers. Drizzle the puree on top of hummus and serve.

Grandma's Witch Finger Pretzels

Ingredients

Pretzel Rods
Wilton Candy Melts – Available in numerous colors and flavors
Wilton Witch Finger Candy Molds

Directions

Melt chocolate in the microwave using the instructions on the packaging. Using the Wilton Candy Molds, fill each mold with a pretzel rod and the chocolate colors of your choice; refrigerate to harden. 

When hardened, slightly twist the tray to remove the witch fingers.

Lurch's Candy Cookie Sandwiches

Ingredients

Ready to Bake Sugar Cookie Dough
Wilton Halloween Cookie CuttersWilton Candy Melts – Available in numerous colors and flavors
Non-Stick Cookie Sheet

Directions

Using a rolling pin and flour, roll out the sugar cookie dough to be approximately ¼ of an inch in thickness. 

Once the dough is rolled and flat, using the Wilton Halloween Cookie Cutters, cut the cookies and place them on a non-stick cookie sheet.

Follow the baking instruction on the back of the packaging to ensure you are cooking them for the appropriate time and temperature. 

Once cookies are cooled, melt the desired Wilton Candy Melts and spread evenly on each cookie. 

Sandwich the melted candy with another cookie of the same shape.  Decorate the cookie with the candy melts as desired.
