Make these chic “apple tree” cookie pops for Fall easily with simple circle cookie cutters and store-bought fondant.  Wrapping the cookie sticks with brown ribbon takes care of the tree trunk. Prop your cookie pops in a Stryofoam block wrapped in green tissue paper and you have an instant orchard.

Supplies

2 ½ inch circle cookie cutter
1/2 inch circle fondant cutter
cut-out cookie dough, chilled
cookie sticks
fondant
green and red food coloring
rolling pin
confectioner’s sugar
frosting
light corn syrup
brown ribbon
glue or tape

Directions

Helpful Hint: Find the cookie and fondant cutters, cookie sticks, fondant, and ribbon in the craft store.

Roll out chilled cookie dough about 3/8 inch thick. Cut out 2 ½ inch circles, insert cookie sticks into the circles at the base, about half way into the cookie. Make sure the cookie stick fits securely in the cookies. Place cookies on the baking tray and bake according to the recipe. Let cool completely.

Prepare red and lime green fondant: Add a few drops of food coloring to a handful of fondant and knead very well. Add more drops as needed until desired color is achieved. Tip: If the fondant gets sticky from overhandling, let sit at room temperature uncovered for 15 minutes or until easily pliable.

Roll out green fondant on a surface dusted with confectioner’s sugar. Cut out 2 ½ inch circles and set aside. Roll out red fondant, cut out ½ inch circles (about 4 or 5 per tree) and set aside. Using a dab of light corn syrup as glue, adhere the red circles to the green circles to look like apples.

Spread a small amount of frosting on a cookie pop and cover with one of the apple tree tops. Smooth with your fingers. Starting at the base of the cookie, carefully wrap a piece of brown ribbon tightly around the cookie stick, securing at the bottom with a dab of glue or tape.
