Ingredients:
Zest of 1/2 an orange
Juice of 1/2 an orange
3 tablespoons no-sugar added apple sauce
3 yellow delicious or granny smith apples, peeled and chopped into
1/2-inch pieces
2 tablespoons raisins
pinch salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3 tablespoons white sugar, plus extra for sprinkling on top
1 tablespoon flour
1 package (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, just defrosted
1 egg beaten for egg wash
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine top nine ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
Flour a board and roll out each sheet of puff pastry to about 1 ½ its size. Cut each sheet into 4 evenly sized squares (a pizza cutter works well).
Brush the edges of each square with egg wash and place about 1/3 cup of the apple mixture on the square. Fold the pastry diagonally over the apple mixture and press the edges with a fork.
Transfer to a parchment-paper lined sheet pan. Brush the top with egg wash, sprinkle with sugar, make 2 small slits in the pastry, and bake for 20 minutes -- until browned and puffed.
