When planning an autumn themed celebration, the obvious choice is to take inspiration from gourds, pumpkins and corn. However by introducing apples, you not only bring in a rich red colour to your table top design, you are also giving your guests a sweet aroma that won't overpower their meal.

For the Autumn wedding celebration I planned, I incorporated this abundant fall fruit into my tablescapes. Our gathering was small, so we didn't have to spend a ton of time on these decorative embellishments.

Best made on the day of the reception, these apple votives are simple to make and require very little crafting talent, so anyone can lend a hand in putting the finishing touches on your table. Each apple takes around 2-3 minutes to prepare.

Supplies

A paring knife
Enough Apples to fill your decorating needs.
Small tea light
Petroleum Jelly (optional day in advance method)

Directions

Step 1: Trace the tea light on the top of your apple using a pen or the end of your knife.

Step 2: Carve out the circular shape of your tea light using your knife, taking precautions not to cut yourself.

Step 3: If need be a small teaspoon will help you round the edges and remove excess fruit to create a small cavity at the top of the apple.

Step 4: Place the tea light into the cavity and light when ready.

Optional: If you are making the apple votives the day in advance, spread a tiny amount of Petroleum Jelly on to the cavity of the fruit.  This will prevent if from browning and wilting.
