Central Park, Uptown Splendor in the Grass

Find a bench facing the west for a magnificent view of Central Park West architecture. The Boat House gondoliers and rowboats make for entertaining viewing and escape as you nibble on fresh fruit, brioche, country ham and summer greens. Central Park's Strawberry Fields

"IMAGINE": Located across the street from the scene of John Lennon's untimely demise, Strawberry Fields is a beautiful 2.5 acre park located just inside of Central Park. Opened on John Lennon's 45th birthday, Oct.9, 1985, this idyllic oasis offers a calm respite from the rigors of Manhattan.Named after the famous Beatles song "Strawberry Fields Forever" penned in 1967 by Lennon, this international garden of peace features the plantings of 121 nations. While many search in vain for strawberry plants here, the fact is that Strawberry Fields was the name of an orphanage in Liverpool where John spent a lot of time hanging out with others as a boy.This tear-drop-shaped parcel of land is shaded by stately American elms that gently sway down curving paths amidst a profusion of shrubs, bountiful flowerbeds and isolated groves of trees. What a perfect place to picnic and to hum a familiar tune or two!

The Metropolitan Museum's Roof Garden

Normally closed to the public from November to late April, this secret hide-away presents spectacular views across Central Park to the Manhattan skyline. From its vantage point, visitors enjoy a dramatic bird's-eye view of Central Park. After your "work-of-art" picnic, step inside the museum for a real treat!

Riverside Park 

For those who prefer a water-side picnic site, try Riverside Park along the Hudson River. Stretching four miles from West 72nd to West 158th streets, Riverside Park is widely regarded as Manhattan's most spectacular waterfront park. If you don't mind strolling, visit the Harlem branch of Fairway Market for a picnic-on-the-go. It is within walking distance on 12th Ave. & West 132nd Street. Having a picnic and munching on all those goodies bought down the slope at Fairway, will provide an ideal escape from the city's hustle-n-bustle.

South Street Seaport, Fulton & South Streets

Another great picnic spot is New York City's South Street Seaport. When they say "the City" they mean New York.And when they say "not-to-be-missed" they mean South Street Seaport. A thriving community complete with a world-class maritime museum, breathtaking views and more than 100 shops, cafes and restaurants. This renovated American landmark is right on Lower Manhattan's historic waterfront. Simply order some sandwiches and fabulous salads to go from Harbour Cafe or Barbarini Alimentari, sit back and enjoy the maritime view!
