If you're eating a cupcake, you know how delicious it is, which means you know you can't enjoy it without a bit of sacrifice around the hips, butt and thigh area, so do you REALLY need to know exactly how many calories are in a cupcake?
We took a big risk with our cupcake obsession recently and gave in to curiosity. After seeing the calorie counts posted at a local cupcakery, we decided to scope out the best and worst calorie counts for the biggest brands in the cupcake world. Some of these we grabbed right from bakery shelves, others we found online at MyFitnessPal.com.
On our hit list, NYC's Magnolia Bakery, Crumbs Bake Shop, Sprinkles Cupcakes and recently arrived, Georgetown Cupcake. It wasn't very easy unearthing all these calorie counts, so if you think you've got a better offender or alternative to the list we made, let us know in the comments section!
Of the 8 cupcakes we found, a few shocked us - one, in a good way. Some scared the bajeezas out of us and totally ruined any shot of us ever enjoying a single one alone again.
BEST Cupcake from Georgetown Cupcake
Georgetown Cupcake's chocolate ganache cupcake tops our list as best cupcake in terms of calories. At just 196 calories, it tastes delicious as a cupcake should, but doesn't go overboard with the sugar, so it also won't totally kill your waistline!
WORST Cupcake from Georgetown Cupcake
Once you take a peek at the other cupcakes on our list this calorie count won't sound so bad, but coming in at 250 calories, Georgetown's cupcakes are the big no-no's on their shelves.
BEST Cupcake from CRUMBS
Topping out at 488 calories, CRUMBS' Dulce de Leche surprised us as the "healthiest" cupcake on the bakery's shelves.
WORST Cupcake from CRUMBS
Just as surprising, CRUMBS' worst offender (and biggest diet killer on our list) was the carrot cake cupcake. At 600 calories, the dense cake and heavy cream cheese frosting tipped the scales in a scary way!
BEST Cupcake from Sprinkles
Sprinkles recently made news with it's cupcake ATM and we'd definitely suggest going with their dark chocolate cupcake to get the best calorie intake available. This Sprinkles cupcake will cost you around $3.50 and 459 calories.

WORST Cupcake from Sprinkles
The gap wasn't as big with the best and worst cupcakes from Sprinkles as it was for CRUMBS. Coming in at 497 calories, their biggest diet-ditcher was their red velvet cupcake.

BEST Cupcake from Magnolia Bakery
NYC's first big cupcake hot spot, Magnolia Bakery's vanilla cupcake with buttercream frosting and sprinkles has a calorie count of 202 making it the second best on our list.
WORST Cupcake from Magnolia Bakery
Like Sprinkles, Magnolia's red velvet cupcake's great taste comes with a calorie price tag that's higher - a total of 442 calories can be found in a single red velvet Magnolia cupcake.
