Black and gold are classic grad colors, so why not add a bit of pizzazz and creativity to your cupcakes by using these colors to create personalized desserts that are perfect graduation celebrations of all kinds! If you prefer, adapt these directions to use the grad’s favorite colors or the school’s colors.

Ingredients:

8 ounces of plain white homemade or store-bought icing

Gold sprinkles or edible gold luster dust (or any color you prefer)

Your favorite cupcake mix or recipe made from scratch

Black fondant (You can dye your own, but it’s often easier to just buy it already colored.)

Directions:

Trace the last two numerals of the graduation year onto cardboard and cut it out. Make sure these two numbers are small enough for both to fit on a cupcake side by side.

On parchment or waxed paper, roll out the fondant to a 1/8 inch thick sheet. Trace a pair of numbers for each cupcake and cut them out using a sharp knife. Cut a small apostrophe for each pair from the leftover fondant pieces. Let all of the figures dry overnight.

Bake a batch of your favorite cupcakes and once they are cool, frost them with a layer of icing to create a smooth foundation to lay your fondant on top of.

Dip the edges of the cupcakes in sprinkles or luster dust and roll around until the sides of the entire cupcake is covered in gold.

Using a small dab of frosting as glue, attach each pair of numbers and the apostrophe to each cupcake.
