Welcome guests, trick-or-treaters and the cable guy with this easy Halloween decor idea. Make this doormat that looks like a pool of blood – but not so much that your haunted home is mistaken for a real crime scene. This craft may look involved, but it's extremely simple and inexpensive. Look at your favorite big box store for cheap, thin welcome mats (I got mine for just $3.00). You want it as thin as possible for ease of cutting and because it will look better if it's very flat.
Materials
Thin doormat
Marker
Scissors
Red paint
Directions
Step 1: Turn the mat upside down, so you're looking at the rubber backing.
Step 2: Draw a stylized pool of blood on the backside of the mat with marker, starting from one top corner and ending at the other. Leave the top edge straight so it looks like the blood is seeping out from under the door.
Step 3: Cut out the mat along the line.
Step 4: Paint the rubber side of the mat red. You can apply latex or acrylic paint with a brush, or spray paint it red. You may need to apply two to three coats.
Step 5: Allow the mat to dry completely, then lay it at the threshold of your front door.
