A 50th birthday is more than just any ole birthday celebration. After all, you are celebrating half a century of memories and milestones! A celebration of this magnitude deserves more than a few party hats and a birthday cake, but let’s face it – times are rough. Thankfully, there are still plenty of ways to have a bash worthy of this milestone on a budget.
Have it at Home
Yes, you can have an elegant and memorable affair in the comfort of your own home! This idea works best if you have a large outdoor space or common area for your guests. Use your budget to hire a catering company so you don’t have to worry about the cooking or cleaning. To add an extra something, you can hire a few cocktail waitresses to walk around and carry hors d'oeuvres.
Pick a theme and decorate using some of your favorite DIY ideas like this beautiful DIY chalkboard bottle that makes use of your old wine bottles. Or, fill your house with candles of varying sizes for an elegant atmosphere.
Most towns have a local VFW, usually reserved for town meetings and events for veterans. But these VFWs are also available for rent at a discounted rate. You’ll have to provide your own catering and decorations, but you’ll save tremendously on the venue rental and can dedicate more of your budget to food and décor. The best part? You can provide your own liquor, which as we all know is usually the hardest hit to our wallets.
This is one I can personally vouch for. Check your local race track for any party packages they may have. The entertainment is included, and chances are most of your guests have never seen a horse race. Even the kids have a great time! Most large tracks may have special activities for the kids on weekends so your guests won’t have to worry about hiring a sitter. Even the open bar was a decent price, costing about three thousand dollars less than we would have paid at a venue or restaurant.
Vegas Style Party
A trip to Vegas may be out of the question, but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring Vegas home! No matter what venue you choose for your event, Vegas is only one step away. Make sure and include the theme information on the invitations, so your guests know to wear their nighttime best.
First, hire a lovely lady to stand at the door and greet your guests dressed in flashy Vegas costume and wear. We’re talking bright headpieces and feathers! You can hire local talent which may require you to provide the costume, or hire a local entertainment company and see if they can give you any recommendations. Your greeter can also give your guests their “play chips” and explain the rules as they come in.
You’ll also need to rent some fun Vegas style games like a black jack table and maybe even roulette. Purchase some “prizes” that your guests will love. These can be purchased online in bulk for maximum savings.
