Linen

Pull out your holiday linens and open them up. Check for stains and overall condition. If buying new, first consider what china and platters you are using. If you have opted to use your deep red cookware, choose a white cotton cloth. If your platters and china are all white, try using deep dark colors or create a whispery feel with a white cloth and silver sheer overlay.

Napkins don't need to be the same pattern and color as your tablecloth; but, they should be cotton and in excellent condition. Create roll-ups where you place your flatware inside a napkin and roll it up!

Utensils

When wrapping your utensils fold the napkin down on the top and bottom of the flatware, and then roll it up. This way as your guests walk away from the buffet the silver won't slip through the napkin. Tie with a pretty ribbon.

Creating your display

Several days before your party, check your equipment. Lay out your linen on your table. Pull out your platters, a sticky note pad and pen. Begin matching your menu items with the dishes you have in your home. Now lay them out on your table. Play around with the order of the platters and the placement.

Plan on placing your silver roll ups in a basket or wooden box. Think outside the box...look around your home, use something interesting if you can.

This order is the "rule of thumb" but feel free to mix it up.
