Hello my name is Vanessa and I have a slight addiction to bunting and burlap and Christmas decorations. I may or may not have started decorating for Christmas since Halloween. If you share my vices, you’ll love this craft project!

This step by step tutorial will show you how to make a Christmas banner, out of burlap of course! You could throw a holiday party and hang your hand painted bunting over the dessert table. It would also look fabulous hanging over a fireplace.
I’m a big fan of decorations that can be reused for multiple holidays. Once Christmas is over, flip the bunting over and use the same tutorial to spell V-A-L-E-N-T-I-N-E on the other side for Valentine’s Day.
Supplies
9 – 4 5/8 x 7 Burlap Rectangles
5 – 12 x 18 Red Stiffened Felt Sheets
Letter Stencils
White Acrylic Paint
Jute or String
9 Clothespins
Directions
Step 1: Cut red stiffened felt into 9 – 6 x 8 ½ rectangles. You should be able to cut 2 rectangles per sheet. Set aside.
Step 2: Spray stencil adhesive to the backs of the C,H,R,I,S,T,M,A and S stencils and adhere them to the center of 9 burlap rectangles.

Step 3: Using a sponge brush, dab 2-3 coats of white paint onto the stenciled burlap. Place a piece of cardstock behind the burlap so the paint doesn’t seep through. Remove the cardstock before the paint dries so it doesn’t stick. Allow to dry before peeling off stencils.

Step 4: Attach the C,H,R,I,S,T,M,A and S burlap rectangles to the red stiffened felt rectangles using no-sew glue or craft glue. Test out your glue on a small piece of burlap and felt to make sure it will adhere. If you prefer, you could also sew the burlap to the felt.

Step 5: Attach the rectangles to jute or string using clothespins, spelling out Christmas. Hang and enjoy.
