If you are as big a fan of burlap as I am, you’ll love this homemade Valentine’s Day craft. To create one stunning decoration for Valentine’s Day, or even to give as a homemade gift to your sweetie, simply paint a heart on a piece of burlap, wrap around a candle and attach some yarn. It’s a quick and easy process, but makes for some seriously cute Valentine’s Day décor, especially if a few assorted candles of varying height are clustered together.
The best part is that the burlap will come off pretty easily if you use a glue stick, making it easy to transition to the next holiday and to reuse your candle. If you want something more permanent, I suggest using stronger holding glue or even tacking the burlap to the candle in the back.

Heart Stencil (I used this Martha Stewart stencil)
Step 1: Trim the burlap to fit around the candle as shown in the photo. The idea is to have each of the ends of the burlap overlap each other in the back, so you’ll want a slightly longer cut than the width of your candle.
Step 2: Place the heart stencil in the center of the burlap strip and use the sponge brush to dab several layers of red paint onto the burlap. Make sure to place a piece of cardstock or cardboard behind the burlap, as red paint will seep through. Allow to dry completely.
Step 3: Once the paint has set, wrap the burlap strip around the candle. Attach the overlapping pieces together on the back with a glue stick.
Step 4: Finally, simply wrap a piece of red yarn around the candle and tie in a bow to give it added flair. We like the red yarn for something a little more simple, but a thicker ribbon will work just as well.
