Canvas Art Craft Tutorial

I have been admiring canvas crafts for some time and never had the courage to give it a try. Perhaps it was something about them being big and looking complicated that scared me off, but the truth is, I had no reason to avoid them! DIY Canvas Art is simple to create and can turn a bare wall into something personal in under an hour using just a few basic craft supplies.

I created this butterfly canvas art for my daughter, but any design will work with the steps outlined below. In fact, it is so simple that once you apply the spray paint, you can give your little crafter the project to complete - but I was having too much fun to share this craft. Maybe the next one!

Supplies:

1 can of satin finish spray paint

1 butterfly shaped craft cutter

1 paint brush

1 bottle of quick drying clear glue

Canvas

1 sheet of decorative crafting paper

Directions:

Step 1: Set up an area with good ventilation to spray paint your canvas. Using even bursts, spray paint your canvas taking care to do the sides as well as the top and allow it to dry for 30 minutes or until touch dry. 

Step 2: While it dries, cut out your butterfly shapes out of the decorative paper using your puncher.

Step 3: Once the canvas is dry and the butterfly shapes are completely cut, use a small paintbrush to apply the glue to the back of each butterfly and then place it on the canvas in whatever design you desire.

Step 4: After the design is complete, allow it to dry for 1-2 hours before hanging on your wall. 

*You can apply a coat of Mod Podge to the crafting paper before you cut the shapes to give the paper a glossy shimmer, but I opted for a matt contrast to the satin back ground.
