Valentine's Day is always a special holiday for me and my kids because I have such fun memories of celebrating with my mom when I was little. Here are a couple of Valentine's Day ideas that I still incorporate every year.
DIY Valentines
Goodness knows my boys (5yrs & 3yrs) would much prefer the store bought valentines with Spiderman or Dora on them but there’s something so special about the homemade kind. Every year I get loads of red, pink and white construction paper, glue, glitter, stickers, etc. and we set out to make our valentines from scratch. I love that it encourages the boys to be creative and (let’s be honest) keeps them occupied for a while. Someday I know they’ll fight me on this, but as long as I’m able, we’ll keep this homemade tradition alive.
Heart Cookies
One of my favorite memories of my Valentine’s Day growing up was that my mom always baked her famous heart shaped sugar cookies and iced them with red icing. No matter how busy she was she always took the time to make them for each of us kids and since I love to bake with my boys this is something we do together. We package our cookies up and take them to Daddy’s office, or the teachers at school and everyone feels the love.

Mommy & Daddy Dinner
Valentine's is also special because it’s my husband’s birthday. With two toddlers though, the idea of heading out for a fancy dinner just isn’t an option. However, we still want the night to be special and celebratory so we always make him a big yummy dinner together. Last year it was Filet Mignon with onion rings and homemade mac and cheese!
