Chili in a Jar

It is said the way into a man’s heart is by way of his stomach, and dads are no exception!

Even if you’re not a savvy chef you can still appease your pop’s appetite with this clever meal-in-a-jar idea that requires no wrapping, and no cooking on your part. Simply layer the dry ingredients used in one of his favorite dishes, such as chili, soup, tacos or even brownies, and sign, seal and deliver the goods to Dad on his special day.

Supplies

Mason jar with lid
Dried beans (we used kidney, black, garbanzo, navy, and black-eyed peas)
Spices such as cumin, chili powder, or taco seasoning
Dried onions
Ribbon (optional)

Directions

In the bottom of your mason jar pour your spices in 1/4 inch layers. Knock jar gently on a hard, flat surface to level the powder. Repeat steps with different kinds of beans alternating with light and dark colors for an eye-catching look. Continue layering beans until jar is nearly, but not completely full. Seal jar and tie decorative ribbon around the neck for instant wrapping. Voilà! Meal in a jar!
