Chocolate Covered Bacon

There’s no denying it, this chocolate-covered bacon recipe is the ultimate indulgence for meat and sweet lovers alike.

It seems this season that bacon has taken a break from the breakfast table, skipped right over sandwiches, and landed smack on the dessert menu.

Nowadays you can find bacon in everything from cocktails to cookies, but there’s no beating these double-dipped, savory snacks, that combine smooth, creamy chocolate with mouthwatering bacon to transcend all meals and deliver one irresistible treat.

We must warn that this sweet and salty snack is not for the faint of heart, for those look for a light nosh, stick to chocolate covered pretzels!

Ingredients:

12 slices thick-cut bacon

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 tablespoon vegetable shortening

Toppings of choice like crushed nuts, orange peel,  or white chocolate bits

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400°F. Lay bacon strips in a single layer on a large, nonstick baking sheet, allow to bake for 10-15 minutes or until crisped. Remove from oven and transfer bacon to a cooling rack lined with paper towels. Let cool completely.

Meanwhile, in a heatproof bowl combine shortening and chocolate. Microwave on high for about 30 seconds or until chocolate is almost completely melted. Mix thoroughly until smooth.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Using a pastry brush carefully coat one end of each piece of bacon with the melted chocolate. Sprinkle chocolate end with nuts, peels and white chocolate and place on prepared baking sheet. Chill bacon in refrigerator until chocolate has set, about 20 minutes. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container in fridge for about a week.
