Coffin Halloween Cake

Create a delicious Halloween cake that is also fun to look at.

We hosted a ladies' night Halloween cocktail party and wanted to incorporate the skull/skeleton motif from our Pear Tree Greetings Round and Round the Skulls Halloween party invitation, so we made a coffin Halloween cake with a white chocolate skeleton laying lifeless inside.

There's really no recipe involved with our dessert, just some simple assembly that you can do ahead of time and for your own Halloween party - no matter what the theme!

Supplies:

1 frozen pound cake, defrosted

1 can of chocolate frosting

Chocolate graham cracker crumbs

White chocolate + skeleton candy mold

Piping gel or icing

Directions:

You will need to make your white chocolate skeletons ahead of time so they have time to set up in the refrigerator. Simply melt your chocolate using a double boiler and pour into molds. Tap out air bubbles and shave off any excess chocolate from the mold, and refrigerate until chocolate is hardened.

To make the coffin, cut off the top third of the pound cake for the lid. With the top still in place you can give your coffin some shape by cutting a thin diagonal slice off each side near the top and then taper down to the bottom. See picture for the tapered effect.

Next, set the lid aside and begin frosting the cake. Save some frosting and place in a piping bag to create a border around the perimeter of the coffin.

Place the coffin on a dish and surround it with the chocolate crumbs for 'dirt.' You can also place some inside the coffin where the skeleton will lay.

You can now place your white chocolate candy skeleton in the coffin and write RIP on the lid using decorator gel or frosting.
