Cookie Ornaments

Jeanne Benedict

Baking a batch of cookie ornaments is a popular Christmas craft.

You can hang your cookie ornaments from a pretty ribbon on the Christmas tree and designate them as "decor only."

Or keep the cookies fresh by wrapping them with clear cellophane and then dangling them from the tree. Give the wrapped cookies to guests that visit your home during the holiday season.

**Keep cookies on the tree for a maximum of 1 week and then discard them.

Ingredients

Favorite cookie recipe
Holiday shaped cookie cutters
Toothpicks
Royal Icing (we like this recipe - add color for more pizazz!)
Edible Glitter
Ribbon

Directions

Choose your favorite "cut out" cookie dough, such as sugar cookies or gingerbread, and follow package or recipe directions to roll out the dough.

Stamp out cookies using holiday cookie cutters.

Use a toothpick or wooden skewer to round out a little hole in the top of the cookie for a ribbon hanger.

Put cookies on a cookie sheet and bake according to package or recipe instructions.

Allow cookies to cool completely and then decorate them with icing and edible glitter.

Thread thin ribbon through the cookie's hole and tie a bow at the top to make a loop.

Wrap cookies in cellophane, if desired, and hang them on the tree.
