Even though Thanksgiving is big on food, kids with picky palates may not be. Encourage the kids to taste everything with a "no, thank you" bite. If they try it and aren't a fan, no need to eat anymore, but they can't know if they aren't a fan until they give it a try!
No matter how much (or what) they eat, have the kids make this felt Thanksgiving dinner placemat, and they're sure to enjoy the feast even if they aren't filling their plates as high as the you can expect the adults in the crowd to do.
Supplies
Felt fabric scraps
Disappearing ink marker
Scissors
Self-adhesive Velcro strips or squares
One piece of stiff craft felt, approx. 13" x 9"
Permanent marker
Directions

Step 1: Using a disappearing ink marker, draw outlines of favorite Thanksgiving foods on a piece of appropriately colored felt. We chose turkey, cranberry sauce, green beans, creamed corn and pumpkin pie. Cut out the food pieces and glue on any loose pieces such as kernels of corn and whipped cream for the pumpkin pie.

Step 2: Trace a dinner plate onto the large piece of stiff craft felt.

Step 3: Cut small pieces of Velcro and stick on the back of each food. Trace a dinner plate onto the large piece of stiff craft felt.

Step 4: Peel off the Velcro backing from the food pieces and place inside the circle. Kids can then remove the different foods and rearrange as desired.

Step 5: If desired, add outlines of utensils, glasses or napkins to create a complete place setting.
