The first step to creating a theme party is picking a theme. That might sound easy, but sometimes noodling up an idea is harder than it appears. If you’re looking for inspiration, visit your local craft store. Walk the aisles and who knows what you may find. Even if you’re not planning on creating the décor or favors, the craft store can trigger some ideas. And if you are, then starting at the store is even more important.
For a recent event I planned I worked with a fabulous theme - art. Since it's a broad party theme it was easy and fun to get creative with, plus it left a ton of room for personalization.
Centerpieces are probably one of the easiest way to showcase a theme. As a floral expert, I of course incorporated flowers into my artsy centerpieces. You can go to your local florist if you want a professional touch to your party, but this is certainly something you can do yourself! Just get creative and follow a few of my tops.
Try using a paint can as the vessel for your flowers. You can purchase them new and clean or, if you really want to get jazzy, you can add a few drips of paint to the sides of the can.
An inexpensive color wheel can add a lot of depth and color to your table. If you really want to get crafty, you can set out paintbrushes and color pencils tied in bundles to imitate the color wheel.
The pencil, marker and paintbrush color wheel centerpiece is a really interactive decor element in addition to beautiful centerpiece. Cover your tables with art paper and allow your guests to get creative with the art supplies - encourage them to express themselves!
Another artsy way you can set the tone for the party is by creating an art gallery look. Hang picture frames in any shape, size or style around the venue and get creative with what you showcase in them.
For our art party, we framed some fresh flowers as a piece of art. This project can really be as simple or elaborate as you like. A few artfully placed flower petals would look great in a frame. Or you can create a finished work of art that has an impressionistic style.
Art inspired events can be as simple, elaborate, sophisticated or informal as you'd like, and the decor will really wow your party guests.
