If you want to make a burger look impressive, all you have to do is give it height. An easy and delicious way to do this is to make homemade crispy onions and pile them high on top of each burger.
For added flavor and heat, chipotles in adobo sauce are also layered on top. These burgers are crispy and spicy, and will really wow all of your guests.
3 cups Canola Oil, For Frying
1 Onion, Sliced
2/3 cup All Purpose Flour
2 Eggs, Beaten
1 1/2 pounds Ground Beef
7 ounces (1 can) Chipotle in Adobo Sauce
Salt and Pepper, to Taste
4 Hamburger Buns
Place the oil in a shallow pan. Heat the oil on medium heat until it reaches about 350 degrees F. Meanwhile, also heat the grill to medium-high temperature.
Create an assembly line of the sliced onions, beaten eggs, and flour. A few slices at a time, dip the onions into the eggs and then into the flour to coat. Fry the onions until golden brown and crispy. Place on a plate lined with paper towels to drain. Continue frying the onions until you have finished. Lightly sprinkle the onions with salt after they have finished frying.
Divide the ground beef into 4 round patties, about 2 1/2-inches in diameter and 3/4-inch thick. Season the patties with salt and pepper. Place the burgers on the grill and cook until the desired doneness.
While the burgers are cooking, heat up the chipotles in a small sauté pan.
Assemble the burgers with a couple chipotles and a pile of crispy onions on top of each burger.
