Much of the holiday season and our Christmas celebrations revolve around delicious foods and treats. Instead of using the same old plates and platters to serve up your Christmas creations, give Santa something to get excited about this holiday season by creating a holiday themed serving tray for his beloved milk and cookies. This Christmas craft is great for dressing up your holiday buffet or dinner table when you’re not able to buy a whole new set of special Christmas plates!
We used an old tray in this craft tutorial, but the same technique can be used endlessly with assorted serve ware.
Head to your local craft store for thematic holiday scrapbook paper that compliments the rest of your home’s holiday style like we did, or use old magazines to jazz up your serve ware. With just a few additional supplies, you’ll have yourself a decorative Christmas tray that’ll last you for years to come.
Various sheets of scrap booking paper
Quick drying craft glue
Paper blade or Scissors
Holiday Stickers or tape (optional)
Step 1: Select the crafting paper that fits with your theme, and then cut our shapes and sizes to fit your design. We opted for a simple design and cut out 2 large shapes to cover the top of our repurposed tray, but you can use smaller, mixed cuts to give it extra texture.
Step 2: Glue the paper to the top of the tray to create your design and then allow it to dry for 10-20 minutes.
(Optional) Step 3: Once dry, apply holiday themed stickers (in this case I used green holiday tape) to your design.
Step 4: To complete the platter, apply a thin top coat of Mod Podge to the platter and allow to dry for 1-2 hours before using.
