DIY Bridal Sash

What’s a bride-to-be without a statement sash on the night of her bachelorette party? Just another partygoer, we guess.

Say it loud and say it proud with a simple, yet bold sash that screams “I’m getting married!” while still looking hopelessly romantic. This homemade sash ditches the over-the-top glitz and predictable pink for a more sophisticated adornment you or your guest of honor will just love.

Don’t hold back when it comes to customizing this easy, yet elegant sash, and feel free to incorporate wedding colors or future surnames into this statement piece.

Supplies

5 yards satin ribbon cut into 1-yard segments
2-4 sheets felt in two different colors
Kraft glue or hot glue gun
Fabric scissors

Directions

Step 1: Knot all five strands of ribbon together at one end; separate the strands so that the two middle ones are together and the top and bottom strand frame them.

Step 2: Using a template or working in freehand, cut three large hearts and the letters, B, I, and D out of one color of felt. Out of the other color cut two more hearts and the letters R and E. If customizing this sash with another name or phrase, feel free to use other shapes to fit!

Step 3: Glue the letters onto the hearts of the contrasting color, pressing carefully but firmly until the letter lies flat.

Step 4: To glue the letters (and hearts) to the sash, cut small squares, as wide as the two center strands of ribbon and sandwich the strands between felt square and letters. It helps to do this so that the letters are facing down, so that you can be sure the square completely covers the strands it is affixed to. Flip the entire sash over and allow it to dry for at least 1 hour before wearing.
