For an easy, inexpensive and fun kindergarten graduation decoration, look no further than your favorite candy for inspiration.
Personalized M&Ms coated in bright primary colors and graduation wishes for the Class of 2012 make for the ideal material to make a festive grad wreath. Apart from being extremely cute, it’s also a cinch to put together with a bit of DIY elbow grease.
Since there's a glue gun involved here, have the kids partake in the painting of the wreath, but reserve the M&M application for yourself. Just make sure they don't sneak too many of the M&Ms while your concentrating on crafting!
All in all, this decoration took about 3 hours to make. This includes the paint drying time.
1 Styrofoam Wreath
Red Paint (Blue will work, too – yellow is too light)
2 lbs MyM&Ms in red, yellow and blue (personalized with graduation wishes!)
Glue Gun (Surprisingly, it didn't melt the chocolate and was easiest to use.)
Begin by prepping your workspace – be sure to spread newspaper to avoid paint spills and stains. Pour your paint into a plastic bowl and brush your wreath form with a soft cloth to remove any dust or dirt.
Next, paint around your wreath evenly. You may need a second coat depending upon how much the wreath absorbs, but remember, you’ll be covering in M&Ms, too, so no need to be perfect!
Allow your wreath to dry completely, then, attach your ribbon. We used a thicker blue ribbon to complement the primary color theme. Cut to your desired length, then apply a dab of glue to the back of your wreath where it meets the ribbon. Making sure the two ends meet evenly, secure the ribbon to the wreath. Allow to set.
Finally, apply your M&Ms. Carefully use a glue gun to apply the adhesive to M&Ms and place around the wreath until it is completely covered.
Hang wherever you’d like in your party space, but make sure it’s out of the reach of little hands! Kids might think this wreath is edible, but it’s certainly not!
