This cupcake idea is sure to win your Valentine's favor! Whether you make your own batch of cupcakes or take a shortcut with a favorite bakery's recipe, you can dress up your sweet treat for any special someone.
We crafted this clever cupcake for Valentine's Day, but you can certainly use the idea all year round when you're looking for a treat to gift a loved one.
The idea behind this cupcake is to keep it simple, yet sweet. We made a richly textured brown cupcake wrapper out of cardstock and laced a bright red ribbon through it. A chocolate heart embellishes this cupcake and makes an elegant and romantic presentation - doesn't it just shout, "won't you be mine"?
Feel free to shake things up with a different color pattern. You can work with any color cardstock and coordinating ribbon. Plus, you can also use different color chocolates to add even more pops of color to your batch of hearts.
To make the wrapper, you can free sketch a template or just download our template. Once you print, cut that out to trace on whatever cardstock you're using and outline on there, then cut.
We chose to work with a rich brown scrapbook paper and then ran it through a crimper for a textured look. It's not the typical wrapper expected on Valentine's day, but is richly romantacized with the red ribbon and coordinating chocolate heart.
Once you've cut the wrapper out, secure the ends of the wrapper to fit the cupcake and staple or adhere with a strong 2-sided tape. Do this without actually wrapping the cupcake!
Next, with a sharp knife, like our X-acto, make evenly spaced slits around the wrapper and then weave the ribbon through it, tying both ends in a bow at the front of the wrapper.
Slip the cupcake into the wrapper, and add a chocolate heart to the top and you have a lovely presentation for a Valentine's Party.
The chocolate hearts are as simple to make as well. Just melt some semi-sweet chocolate chips in the microwave in 20 second intervals to avoid burning.
Then, when they're melted, spoon the melted chocolate in heart shapes onto a wax paper lined pan. We free-handed our hearts, but you can spoon your chocolate into piping bags and use that to shape your hearts.
Refrigerate the hearts until they are completely set up, thenuse to embellish the top of your cupcakes!
