Paper crafts need not stop at decorations! With the right materials you can create festive holiday hostess gifts like these advent coasters. With so many themes for holiday scrapbooking paper, you could create a number of variations on this idea with little cost and time, making your holiday crafting projects something to share with everyone.
Using plain white coasters (or tiles if you have those on hand), I used my scrapbooking paper to make them go from plain to festive in under 20 minutes. You can use this technique on alternative surfaces, too – plastic, glass or even cardboard will work!
4 plain white coasters (or tiles)
Super Gloss Mod Podge
Paper blade or Scissors
Holiday Stickers (optional)
Quick drying crafting glue
Step 1: Select the crafting paper that fits with your theme or matches a lovely hostess’ home if your gift giving. In this case, I used an advent theme and then cut the background shape to fit the coaster or tile, along with accent shapes to decorate the coaster.
Get creative with how you layout your design – you can create more of a collage with cut outs or use just one or two larger pieces of scrapbook paper. You can also create a more layered look by placing a base background paper on first, then layering with a photo framed by another piece of scrapbook paper.
Step 2: Using your quick drying craft glue, glue the paper onto the tile, followed by additional layers, to create the finished decoration. Allow the glue to dry completely, about 10-15 minutes.
Step 3: Once dry, apply a thin coat of Super Gloss Mod Podge to create a glossy finish to your coasters. We also suggest a second layer to ensure a completely solid finish. Allow them to dry for 24 hours before you use or wrap your new coasters as a gift.
