Get the kids organized and ready for school by helping them to create a matching desk set. Complete with a personal journal for notes or assignments, a colorful pencil cup full of pencils and markers, and a cute little memo holder, this is a great afternoon craft that is very useful as well as inspiring when it comes to homework time!

DIY Custom Journal

This how-to is great for notebooks as well, but we love the idea of giving the kids a separate journal for freewriting.

Supplies

Composition book or journal
Stickers, photographs
16 inch length of ribbon
Strong 2-sided adhesive tape

Directions

Step 1: Let your child have fun decorating the front of their journals or notebooks with stickers, letters that spell their name, and a photograph. The photograph can be adhered with the adhesive tape.

Step 2: Tape the ribbon about 4 inches down on the inside back cover of the journal. This will form a ribbon bookmark to hold or mark a particular page in the journal.

Step 3: Kids can customize their journals however they'd like. They may want to add some stickers to some of the pages or create sections within the notebook.

DIY Pencil Cup

Keep all those pencils, markers and crayons in a safe place so kids will always have them handy when homework time rolls around. This crafty project adds some colorful flair to their desks, too.

Materials

Clean plastic container - we reused a frosting container
Patterned scrapbook paper
Ribbon
Stickers
Strong 2-sided adhesive tape

Directions

Step 1: Apply a length of 2-sided tape around the perimeter of the container at the top and near the bottom.

Step 2: Apply the pattered paper to the container and embellish with stickers and a ribbon.

DIY Memo Holder

A color coordinated memo holder completes this desk set. There are lots of wooden cutouts at the craft store for kids to choose from. Adhered to an oversized clothespin, it makes the perfect place to clip important notes or encouraging notes for your kids. This is a fun project to do with your child and will encourage them to keep organized and inspired.

Supplies

large clothespin
wooden cutout
scrapbook paper
ink
scissors

Directions

Step 1: Help your child measure the face of the clothespin and cut the paper to the appropriate size. They will need to cut 2 pieces of scrapbook paper to fit the face and the back of the clothespin.

Step 2: With a small sponge, ink the edges of the scrapbook paper with red ink.

Step 3: Apply the paper to the face and the back side of the clothespin with Mod Podge. Let dry.

Step 4: Help your child adhere their chosen wood cutout to the front side of the clothespin with hot glue.
