Savvy hostesses will tell you, when you've got a large gathering to entertain, it's always a great idea to keep your to-dos to a minimum. With holiday parties, come lots of holiday guests and foods - and that means you'll probably be setting up quite a few easy self-serve buffets throughout the season.
The key to creating a functional, yet interesting looking buffet spread is to layer your dishes. Elevating foods at various levels will give the buffet a more dynamic look, but it will also allow easier access to individual plates.

A chic, festive and inexpensive way to dress up your holiday spread while maintaining its function is with DIY decorative place stands.
Luckily, it's easy enough to create your own decorative plate stands with items you already have on hand. The colors are customized to your party decor and can be changed throughout the season as you host different events.
Supplies:
Round or square clear vases, in various sizes
Assortment of ball ornaments, in various sizes
faux snow
Glue adhesive dots
Directions:
Step 1: Fill glass vases with a layer of faux snow.
Step 2: Begin filling with ball ornaments and pour more snow in to fill in empty spaces.
Step 3: Add 2 glue adhesives to the top of the vase, opposite each other, and place a plate on top.
