DIY Stitched Holiday Cards

While you can't be expected to make a homemade card every time you gift a gift, it's always a sweet gesture to go the extra mile or two for a special loved one's present. Luckily, this craft tutorial is so simple, you'll find it so simple and fun to make a homemade card that by the time the holidays arrive, you'll go crazy for everyone on your list!

Pair your present with a homemade card that's made with love and we guarantee your recipient will smile extra widely! There are so many ways to personalize a holiday card, but we're really loving the DIY stitch design idea this year.

Supplies:

Sew Easy Stitch Piercer

Sew Easy Stitching Mat

Festive Colorful Baker's Twine

Cardstock (or other paper)

Directions:

Step 1: First things first, be sure to use the mat that comes with your Sew and Stitch. I thought about using a larger cutting board I have, but after my first swipe I was so happy I didn't and that I had the mat!

The pegs on this little piercer are sharper than you think and cut straight though my cardstock. A less receptive mat would have been problematic and ended up with slipping and/or piercing through the mat.

Step 2: Next, take a few practice rolls. This tool is very easy to use, but can take a little practice for working with a ruler for straight lines, getting your pressure just right, feeling comfortable with it, etc. 

Step 3: Once you're comfortable with your tools, stitch away!

The sky is really the limit with these supplies and creating card designs. I had a lot of fun with the simple stitching; it reminds me of a holiday sweater or knit stockings, and the twine is so festive; it adds so much life to even the simplest pattern. 

Step 4: You can go crazy with the shape of your stitching, the type of card shape and texture, and also by adding in other mediums, too.

For example, I layered tissue paper to my cardstock and stitched it to the cardstock for a more 3D look. To recreate, simply lay the tissue paper on top of the card and run the piercer over both pieces of paper. 

The tissue paper was a bit tedious as there are so many sheets it’s a little challenging holding them all in place as you stitch, but the end result is worth it!

To make the pom pom effect, I just slipped some of the crinkle paper we use to pack the Celebrate Crates under a stitch and tightened. So easy - and pretty creative, too!
