DIY Summer Memory Game Craft for Kids

As the summer winds down and back to school blues start to settle in, have the kids brainstorm some of their favorite summer memories and create a personalized Memory game.

This craft project for the kids will give them something fun to do during the final days of summer vacation, but it will also encourage them to revisit the best moments of the past few months in a creative way. Immortalizing those summer moments for this card game will ensure the kids' memories last a lifetime, too.

Supplies

2 1/2 X 3 inch pieces of white cardstock
stamp
ink pad
pencils
crayons

Directions

Step 1: Stamp one side in the center of each piece of white cardstock with a fun summer-themed rubber stamp. Use a permanent black ink if you want the kids to color the image.

Step 2: Now, help the kids decide on some of their favorite summer memories that they want to illustrate on the cards.  The kids will take 2 cards at a time and write the fun summer memory on the back of one of the cards, and the matching illustration on the other.

Step 3: After all of the cards are completed, gather the whole family together to play a game of Summer Memory!

Rules for Playing Memory

Setup

Lay all of the cards, face down, in a pattern on the table.

Game Play

The youngest player goes first. Play then proceeds clockwise.

On each turn, a player turns over two cards (one at a time) and keeps them if the picture and words match.  If they make the match, that player also gets to take another turn.

When a player turns over two cards that do not match, those cards are turned face down again and it becomes the next player’s turn.
