Easy Utensil Craft & Thanksgiving Table Decoration

Bringing your color scheme to your table is one of the most important elements to coordinating a cohesively themed party, especially when much of the celebrating revolves around the table.

There are an endless array of decorations for your Thanksgiving table, and while it's always important to keep style in mind, it's also essential to consider functionality. With so much going on at the table, you want it to look pretty, but you need it to support the celebration.

While there are many opportunities to bring a festive and functional look to your holiday table, napkins, linens, place cards, straws, etc., one of my new favorite ways to bring color to the table is to colored dip my utensils. For one thing, this crafty decoration is incredibly easy and brings a lovely pop of color to each place setting. For another, it requires disposable utensils, which will cut clean up time when serving a large crowd.

In the case of a recent pie exchange party I hosted, I color dipped my forks in orange paint and then tied each one to a spoon with twine. It was a simple embellishment, but one that lent itself well to the celebration.

The instructions and materials and minimal and this is a quick way to wow your guests!

Supplies:

Wooden or bamboo flatware (from an online party supplies store)

Acrylic paint (color of your choice)

paint brush for touch up (if needed)

foil or newspaper for drying

Directions:

Pour a generous amount of your paint into a small cup, then dip the bottom of your utensil into the paint to the desired height and let the excess drip off.

Let the utensil dry flat on a piece of foil or newspaper (it dries fairly quickly) and you’re ready to use!
