Skip the $5 gift bag from the store and create your own. We put this bag together for a spring birthday using a basic brown bag decked in extra ribbons, fabric and craft embellishments we already had on hand from past projects.
Feel free to get as creative with your design as you want - whether you use a colored paper bag or different writing supplies (paint, markers, etc,) it doesn't matter! As long as your gift bag is personalized to suit the guest of honor, it'll be appreciated.
**This is really great for the kids to do for a friend's birthday!

Instructions
Start with a brown paper bag - if, like ours, yours doesn't already have a handle, make one. First, hold the two top sides of the bag together and punch two holes into it. Then, take two pieces of equally long ribbon and tie one to each side. Knot the ribbon ends after you've threaded them through the whole to make sure they are securely set.
Next, embellish your gift bag with any design you'd like! We decided to give ours a bit more texture and used fabric scraps we had on hand. Also, since this was a springtime gift for an older friend, we opted for a more mature, seasonal design.
I'm not a glue gun fan since it often ends up creating too much mess. I used Craft Glue Dots for this project and they were perfect. The Glue Dots® secured the heavier embellishments without weighing the bag down any further and made assembly super easy.
