The Fourth of July is our nation’s birthday, and if, like many Americans, you’re planning a special celebration, we have a few quick and easy ways to dress up your party in patriotic red, white and blue colors. The best part is that many of these ideas can be used throughout the weeks before and after the 4th of July so that you’re home is spruced up in All-American splendor for a chunk of the summer.

That beautiful centerpiece that lets the flag fly freely on your table can say it all. Thematic centerpieces are probably the easiest decorations to get your hands on that will make a big statement. We found a few looks at 1-800-Flowers.com, but you could easily create a red, white and blue arrangement with roses (white or red) and a few appropriate filler flowers all topped off with a mini-American flag.
Expert Tip: To keep your centerpieces fresher longer, be sure that you keep your design away from drafts and add water to it as needed to keep the flowers looking their best.
If you are looking for ways to decorate your table and keep your budget intact so you’re actually in the mood to celebrate, remember that a little can go a long way. Dress up your table with beautiful ribbons that show you are in the holiday spirit and add a single rose to the place settings for your holiday celebration. You’ll be able to skip the pricier floral centerpiece but still provide a fresh and festive look for guests.
The ribbons you use to dress up the table can also be tied to chairs to add some additional charm to your space or hung strategically throughout your party area. Keep them for next year and store them safely by rolling the ribbons around leftover tube from your paper towels. Seal them in an airtight container and they’ll be ready for active duty next year!
Keep in mind that during this time of the year you can always find festive patriotic treats. Since they already arrive at your door decorated in red, white and blue for the July 4th celebration, you won’t have to slave in the kitchen to get a themed dessert. Arranged in clusters on your table, 4th of July desserts will add that special touch to your party.
One of my favorite tips for decorating a table thematically for the Fourth of July is to place a large glass bowl of cherries on your table with blue and white cocktail napkins fanned out around them. It’s an edible element to add that’s both functional and aesthetic -guests will love not just looking at, but eating this centerpiece!
Finally, if you plan ahead - you can add some beautiful color and function to your party by placing flowering plants in garden containers that will provide you with the “spirit” of a July Fourth Celebration all summer long. Simply insert outdoor American flags into the plants for the first part of the month and then remove them and enjoy the beautiful flowering plants all summer long. If you properly maintain the plants you will find the investment minimal and the joy immense.
