Cupcakes are a must at any party I throw. For my sister's graduation party, I made two different kinds - cotton candy cupcakes (just whip up a batch of confetti cupcakes and top with cotton candy!) and vanilla buttercream topped with mint chocolate dots.
Though both of these treats screamed candy, they weren't very grad themed, so I decided to craft cupcake picks to add a collegiate touch to the desserts. The cupcake picks did the trick, and also helped secure the cotton candy to the cake.
I put together these picks in all of 1-hour - and that includes punching out 80 circles from cardstock.
What made this craft so easy was that I skipped the tape. When I was at the craft store I discovered Glue Dots®. My first trip I just brought the Permanent Glue Dots Dispenser® but after crafting my dessert bar backdrop I loved how easy to use the dispenser was that I went back and bought another. While there I also decided to use the Pop Up Glue Dots® Roll to give the design of my cupcake sticks more of a 3-D look.
Supplies
Permanent Glue Dots Dispenser®
Pop Up Glue Dots® Roll
Toothpicks
50 2-inch circles from assorted cardstock (or 2 circles per cupcake pick)
25 1-inch circles from assorted cardstock
Graduation cap embellishment
Directions

Step 1: After you've punched out all your circles, begin crafting your cupcake picks by placing the Permanent Glue Dots Dispenser against the top back of one of the 2-inch circles, then drag it down the center (3 dots should do the trick).

Step 2: Next, stick a toothpick on the bottom Permanent Glue Dot. Then, roll another Glue Dot from the dispenser across the top of the toothpick.

Step 3: Aline a second 2-inch circle on top of the first, then press down with your fingers so that the two adhere together.

Step 4: Next, place a Pop Up Glue Dot on the front circle. On top of that, place a 1-inch circle.

Step 5: Finally, use a Permanent Glue Dot to adhere the grad cap embellishment.
