It's always easier to purchase a pinata for your celebration from the store, but it's not as budget-friendly or fun! We've put together an easy how-to for crafting your very own pinata.

The great thing about this craft is that it finds a fun new use for those brown paper bags you're always toting home, requires very few other supplies and avoids a mess by using Glue Dots® - the customizeable adhesives are great for skipping a glue gun or paper mache mess often associated with this type of project.

Supplies

Colored sheets of tissue paper
Scissors
Continuous Glue Lines®
1" Glue Lines®
Hole Punch
Yarn
Brown Paper Bag
Candy

Directions

First, chose several different colored sheets of tissue paper and cut them into 2" strips. I chose four different colors. Once you have your colors, stack them one on top of the other and then fold them in half to make the cutting go faster. I cut the strips using my handy dandy rotary cuter.

Once the strips were cut I used my scissors to cut 1.5" into the strip over .25" to create a type of paper fringe.

Then rotating colors I use Continuous Glue Lines and 1" Glue Lines to adhere the strips around my paper grocery bag. I found that a paper bag is sturdy enough to hold the candy and easy enough for the kids to break without help from a grown up, but feel free to use any similar container for your pinata - particularly if this is a game for the grown ups!

Once I covered 2/3 of the paper bag I filled it with candy and small trinkets. Then, I curled over the top edge and stapled it to the side to secure and close the bag.

Then, I placed the remaining rows of tissue paper on to completely cover all of the pinata.

Finally, use a hole punch to punch two holes at the top of the pinata, tie some yarn through them and your pinata is party ready!

Hang high enough to give the kiddies a challenge!
