Special occasions call for special party menus - especially when it comes to the drinks and desserts! If you need some inspiration on how to mix up a crowd-pleasing menu without straying too far from the comfort zone for friends, consider adding some pizazz to your food with edible glitter.

At first glance you might think edible glitter would taste a lot like sugar, but it doesn't have any real flavor, which is a good thing as you can pretty much put it on anything without messing with ingredients.

And because edible glitter has gotten so popular lately, there are so many fun designs you can get your hands on, and that means even more opportunity to create an easy themed menu.

For our February 2013 Celebrate Crate glitter celebration we opted for a star-studded look using silver star-shaped glitter from King Arthur Flour. Check out all the fun ways we decorated our food for the occasion!

Chocolate dipped marshmallows are so simple to make, but always so impressive at parties. We're big fans of dunking our jumbo marshmallows into dark chocolate, so to jazz them up a bit, we turned to our edible glitter. As we dipped the marshmallows, we let the chocolate set slightly, then sprinkled with glitter.

S'mores have to be the dessert most universally loved - at least with the people we hang out with! To dress them up special for the occasion we halved the typical serving and instead of layering with chocolate, we dipped the tops of our s'mores sandwiches into melted chocolate.

Looking for a sweet treat for that sweetie in your life? No matter the occasion, basic chocolate cupcakes get upgraded to special status when you cut out a heart from the center, fill with frosting and sprinkle with edible glitter.

Jell-O shots have made a BIG comeback of late and we're all about them. This particular recipe replaces the cold water in a regular mix with champagne. To add even more glamor to the shots, we sprinkled edible glitter into the mix before refrigerating to give it that swirled sparkle. Then, when ready to serve, sprinkle with some more!

If you're celebrating with coffee rather than champagne, consider this classic party idea for added sparkle. We dipped some basic wooden spoons into melted chocolate and sprinkled with edible glitter - makes for a great party favor!

Strawberries dipped in chocolate - you can't go wrong. If you're no artisan with chocolate decorating though, you can still give your berries added flair with our edible glitter.
