Fabulous Memorial Day Weekend Style

More Party Ideas

Summer is nearly here and to make sure you start off the season with a stylish foot, we've put together a list of five must have's. The summer season unofficially kicks off on Memorial Day, the last Monday of May each year. Memorial Day 2011 (May 30th) is all about denim, flattering swim suits, cover-ups and button-downs.

After a long winter of sleeves, boots and sweaters, we're so ready to shed the layers, get outdoors and soak in some sun! Check out the list below for your new summer go-to's. Whether you're celebrating with a pool party, day at the beach or camping trip, you won't want to leave home without these items.

Jean Shorts
What better way to show your American spirit than by wearing a classic pair of jean shorts. A mid-thigh length will make it age appropriate, but look for a playful cuff at the bottom for a summer vibe. Check out this pair from The Gap for $49.50.

Swim Suit
If you are dying to unveil your swimsuit body this weekend, make sure you have the perfect style that flatters your unique body type. Hot swimsuit trends for this summer are sequin detailing, hardware, and bright colors. Have everyone looking at you in this suit by Victoria's Secret (top $38, bottoms $16).

Cover-Up
One thing you cannot forget to pack is a cover-up to wear over your swimsuit. Instead of simply wearing an ordinary outfit on top, follow a note from Beyonce and slip into an elegant and flowing maxi-dress. If Kim Kardashian is more your style, go for her favorite sultry look and tie a dark sarong around your waist.

Button up shirt
Memorial Day Weekend should be low-key and relaxing. For a no hassle outfit, put on a button up shirt that looks as though you aren’t even trying (although you totally are). Pair it with khaki’s or some jean shorts as mentioned earlier, or dress it up by pulling back your hair and wearing some chunky jewelry. This shirt from Old Navy ($24.94) is extremely versatile, and the rolled up sleeves are great for the warm weather.

Sun Screen
Memorial Day kicks off the summer season, and everyone knows that means hot, hot, hot weather. Don’t ruin your weekend with a nasty sunburnand stay protected with sunscreen; experts recommend applying at least SPF 30. Be sure to reapply every couple of hours, and more often than that if you are getting in the water!
